MISSOURI
STATE UNIVERSITY
POLICE SUBSTATION
More commonly known as
the "Bike Cops," the substation is a unit of the Springfield
Police Department, located on the campus of Missouri State
University. The officers serving the substation are truly
unique, they are people oriented problem solvers. These
officers are an integral part of our neighborhood. Not
enough good things can be said about the teamwork
the Substation has provided to our neighbors in solving
chronic problems that once plagued the neighborhood. This
neighborhood realizes it is not just a police problem, but a
community problem. "Community Oriented Policing" is a
philosophy and approach to community issues that promotes
community, police, and government interaction and proactive
problem solving. Lower crime rates and increased community
confidence in the police department are the benefits of this
philosophy. This has definitely been true in our
neighborhood.
The substation
serves the large portion of the neighborhood, with Loren St.
being the southern boundary, Grand the northern boundary,
Kimbrough the west, and National Ave. the east boundary.
That area is defined by contract with the university.
