LIVING
The Phelps Grove Neighborhood is
a neighborhood that welcomes diversity. It is a neighborhood where
eclectic, laid back - classy people (in an odd sort of way) live. Where
front porches, trees, and people are important; and cultural events
and beautiful parks are within easy walking distance. (Sorry neighbor, I
just can't see you in the burbs.)
One of the reasons that the
Phelps neighborhood has succeeded as a neighborhood has been the mutual
respect and neighborliness of long term residents and the Missouri State
University students
who have successfully lived side by side. The University students realize
that the long term residents have not signed up for loud music and all
night high jinks and, on the other hand, the long term neighbors
appreciate the vitality and creativity of the students.
The neighborhood is a mix of
single family homes, with nearly an even mix of rental to home owner
occupied dwellings. The neighborhood offers housing to a wide range of
budgets. While the smaller
bungalows sell as low as $60,000, the larger houses may sell for as much
as $300,000. Rental property varies in quality and price. Houses
rent from $500 (if you get lucky) to $1000 monthly. Always check out any
house prior to purchasing or renting. As
you can tell by the wide range in the price of houses, our neighbors choose
to live in Phelps Grove Neighborhood.
Phelps Grove Neighborhood is the
only single family neighborhood that has bicycle patrols. A
large portion of the neighborhood is serviced by bicycle police officers
from our local
Springfield Police Substation
located on the Missouri State University campus. Also, our neighborhood has some very specific
ordinances
unique to our area. All future residents should be aware of these
ordinances.
If you are considering city
living, we encourage you to become a part of the Phelps Grove
Neighborhood.
