FIRE STATION #1

The new Fire Station #1 is now complete. The new structure, located at the intersection of Grand Ave. and Holland St., consolidates two existing fire stations. 

The lots became available due to the result of  the SMSU / City of Springfield boundary agreement.  The lots had been empty for several years when the single family bungalows (converted to fraternity houses) had been razed by SMSU.  The site, currently zoned multi-family (ie. apartments) with a legal capacity of 88 residents, was a sure bet to cater to our ever changing student population.  The PNA, with input from residents,  decided the fire station could better serve the neighborhood as a stabilizing factor for our northern edge and accepted the city's request to locate the station in our neighborhood.

The new fire station houses not only the Fire Station,  also provides a community room for public use. The community room is available for everything from birthday parties to Bar Mitzvah's -- providing one more great amenity to the residents of the Phelps Grove Neighborhood.
